Johnson & Johnson REACH® CLEAN BURST™ Floss & Breath Expert Dr. Harold Katz Offers Tips for Achieving Fresh, Clean, Kiss-worthy Breath

“Brushing and flossing are crucial elements for attacking bad breath,” says renowned breath expert Dr. Harold Katz, celebrity dentist and founder of California Breath Clinics in Los Angeles. “Unpleasant breath is usually caused by bacteria which live in our teeth and gums. These bacteria feast on food particles left on our teeth, creating Volatile Sulfur Compounds (VSC) and resulting in a foul odor.”

To prevent bad breath, Dr. Katz and the American Dental Association (ADA) recommend flossing at least once a day. For the ultimate clean and fresh flossing experience, try Johnson & Johnson REACH® CLEAN BURST™ Floss because, unlike other dental floss, this new floss combines intense, high-impact flavor with superior cleaning to deliver a clean so powerful you can feel it™! Available in three great-tasting flavorsICY PEPPERMINT™, ICY SPEARMINT™ and BERRY MINT™Johnson & Johnson REACH® CLEAN BURST™ Floss leaves a fresh, clean feeling every time you floss.

For fresh, clean, kiss-worthy breath, Dr. Katz offers the following plan of attack:

• Drink 6-8 glasses of water daily. A dry mouth may lead to bad breath.

• Keep your tongue clean. GENTLY brush it at least once daily with a SOFT nylon toothbrush. (One to try: REACH® ADVANCED BETWEEN CLEAN Toothbrush, which features rows of soft, multi-level bristles.) And beware of sharp tongue cleaners, which can cause severe damage to your tongue if used improperly.

• Choose sugar-free “breath mints” or “breath gum” -- bacteria feed off sugar.

• Don’t smoke! It has an immediate drying effect.

• Eat breakfast! Hunger breath is apparent throughout the day if the morning meal is omitted.

• Snack on fresh and fibrous vegetables (carrots, celery) and fruits (apples, oranges) and cut down on deep-fried foods. Diet may be one big factor involved in halitosis (bad breath). Shun infamous bad breath foods: onions, garlic, cabbage, brussel sprouts, coffee, dairy foods and alcohol.

• Keep in mind that 70 percent of all prescription medications may create malodorous breath as a side effect. A good rule of thumb: drink plenty of water with any medicine.

AND, no matter what, flossing is an important weapon against fighting plaque – a cause of bad breath. Your ultimate weapon? Floss regularly with new Johnson & Johnson REACH® CLEAN BURST™ Floss, which explodes with a burst of freshness while effectively removing plaque between teeth.
